Everlane and Sephora recommendations

In my last post I told you that I ordered two pairs of Everlane’s kick crop jeans. The verdict — they are awesome. I’m not a huge fan of skinny jeans. I don’t think they look great on many people including myself. It’s all about proportion and balance. I opt for a straight leg now. bought the black and light wash in my regular size. I’m actually thinking of getting another pair in the dark denim pictured below. The Kick Crop is available in five colors - light wash, black (a deep dark black), washed black, bone and dark wash. The black almost looks as if they are dress pants and not jeans, which is perfect for occasions when typical blue denim isn’t appropriate. I thought the black fit a bit looser than the light wash denim. I guess the Japanese denim with a hint of stretch makes them a bit stiffer and thicker than my typical denim from Madewell, which means they won’t bag out with one wear. You also can’t beat the $78 price tag. The “kick” isn’t overdone, which I’ve seen with others that have a similar cut. If this style isn’t for you, there are others to try. You can check them out here.

What I bought during the Sephora sale:

I had plenty of my foundation Bareskin pure brightening serum foundation, and my BB cream Dr. Jart Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45 as well as my favorite product, Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter that illuminates my complexion (if you haven’t tried this, its a must), so I was able to focus on buying things I don’t normally purchase. I was familiar with Olaplex treatment from trips to my salon. I got the treatment a few times at the salon and stopped when I heard they began selling it as Sephora and I could do it myself. I bought a bottle and then stopped when I finished it. I’m not sure why I stopped but it wasn’t because it didn’t work. Recently when I was filling my cart during the Sephora sale and talking to my mom at the same time, she suggested I get the entire line. She said she used all three and was really pleased with the results. I wanted also wanted to begin protecting my hair from the cold, which often dries out my hair like it dries out my skin. Well, mom is never wrong. I bought Olaplex Hair Perfector No. 3 treatment, Olaplex No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner and Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo. I just used it and my hair doesn’t look like mine. It air dried faster, softer, shinier, and without frizz. I finished it with a short blow dry and no iron, which is huge for me. I color my hair and my hair is dry to begin with, so if you’re like me and need moisture and want to diminish breakage from coloring and heat, I highly suggest you buy all three and give them a try. If you can only by one of the three products, go for the treatment, which you put on damp hair for 10 minutes and rinse off before finishing by shampooing and conditioning. You can wear it while working out or cleaning your apartment or house.

As I mentioned, my hair is dry and in the winter it gets worse. I have similar hair to the blogger Jacey Duprie of Damsel in Dior. It’s thin and dry, so when I read that she suggested IGK Mistress Hydrating Hair Balm, I decided to try it while the Sephora sale was in progress. It’s a leave in conditioning balm that you use when you need hydration. It smells DIVINE. You can use it on wet or dry hair. I used it on dry hair to tame my hair in the mornings. I just used it on wet hair for the first time and I’m not sure how lived without it. It reduces frizz and adds moisture on contact. Bye, bye dry brittle breakable hair.

I’ve tried a lot of texture sprays but most are too drying for me. Again, I read in one of Jacey’s post that IGK Beach Club Texture Spray mini was not as drying as most texture sprays. I saw Sephora had a mini version, which always makes me happy. Like most people, I don’t want to commit to a large bottle without trying it first. I wish all products came in mini versions. Don’t you? I was surprised when it arrived because the can was larger than I expected. It was just what I wanted. It separated my ends and gave my hair needed volume too. My hair looked thicker and piecey in a good way and didn’t make my hair feel like straw. Another thumbs up.

I have an on and off relationship with primer, which is probably because I hadn’t found one I loved. I decided to give it another try. I love that Sephora had a mini of Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum so that I didn’t have to waste money on a full size bottle. It’s a clear serum and not a cream, which I liked. It melted right into my skin, and it helped my makeup to stay on all day without drying it out. I also loved that it’s in a clear bottle, so you can see when you’re running low. The bottle also looks good enough to leave out in your bathroom. A little goes a long way, so I think this mini bottle should last a while.

I read about Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips Lipstick in Tell Laura here and here . I ordered it on Sephora.com but it seems to be sold out, but you can get it here. It’s definitely an attention getting bright orange red. Charlotte Tilbury’s website claims it has light-diffusing pigments to make lips appear fuller, it protect lips from UV damage, and it doesn’t bleed. I can say that it lasts a long time, it didn’t bleed when I wore it all last week, it didn’t make my lips feel as dry as a rice cake, and it did made my lips look full, but I think it’s because of the color. This is a winner if you like a bright lip.

While not part of the Sephora sale, I also bought Glossier’s Cloud Paint for the first time while stocking up on my signature scent You. I find as I get older, powder products settle into fine lines and look dry, so all of my products are in liquid form except for my blush, which I’ve been waiting to finish before switching to a cream. I decided to just go for it and I really liked the product. It’s subtle with one application but buildable and it’s easy to take with you without fear of the container or product breaking in your bag, which has happened to me many times. It lasted all day but I applied a primer (mentioned above) in the morning, so I can’t say if it would have lasted all day without a bit of help. It’s available in six shades. The only negative is that the tube is on the small side.

Thanks for visiting!
